Award Brief

The Award derives its persistence from the recommendation of the late deceased, may God have mercy on him, to direct one third of his estate to charity works, taking into considerations the principle that the closest relatives are the most entitled to charity.

On this basis, charity works diversified in establishing drinking water sources, providing food meals and the various needs to the charity societies and orphanages inside and outside Kuwait. 

Those in charge of the Award addressed attention to the integration to its aspects, the preciseness of its criteria and its desired objective represented in obtaining documented academic and methodological researches which aim at inferring the best and most influential policies on the present reality and developments of the future, which assist to introduce the required change and move towards the best.

Objectives of the Award

The Award is based on the philosophy of the public sector, private sector and civil society’s participation in research and thinking in addressing the reality of the economic reform which confronts strong winds storming its elements and paralyzing its movement. Hence, financial, monetary and social policies makers should exert more efforts and research for the purpose of expediting the procedures and the adoption of methods and systems which contribute and assist in rectifying the deviation and restructuring the economy. Therefore, the Award aims at realizing the promotion and charity dimension under the leadership of the development partners, which is a method to upgrade the policies, regardless of their type, and is considered as a foundation towards a change driving sustainable development, which outlines a clear roadmap for the future and attracts research and intellectual expertise and qualified personnel in the field of finance and economy

Finally, the Award of the late Ahmad Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al Dousain, may God have mercy on him, reiterates that the desired economic reform is a comprehensive reform which comes before any procedures or programs that may be adopted under the framework of future plans or strategies.

Ahmad Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al Douisan:

Known as Bu Yousef (father of Yousef, his eldest son), one of the major merchants in Kuwait who used to bring Arabian cloaks from Iran. He was a man with a kind heart in dealing with the personnel who worked with him. He is characterized by being the best employer, according to the testimony of those who worked with him in the field of trading in Arabian cloaks. He is self-made, who worked in trade with perseverance and effort throughout his life. He is known for being wise. Among his saying is “a girl is a blessing from Almighty God. Hence, when a girl is born, he was keen to distribute meat as a charity to the needy. For the boy, he used to distribute chicken.” Among his directions derived from his belief was “the elderly should be affectionate to the young, and the young should respect the elderly.” He was a man of few words and a good listener of the other opinion. Decisive and strict in his family decisions. Through his good management and care, he was able to create a successful family of 13 son and daughter (seven daughters and six sons.) He was the caregiver of everyone, young and old, girls and boys. He was keen on obedience and appreciation based on consultation and taking the decision in partnership. He was mediocre in his piety.  He was self-made and inherited the trade of his elder step-bother Yousef Al Douisan. He was keen to educate his children, although he observed the general secondary certificate was enough for girls, which is a relatively advanced view at that time.

The name of the late Ahmad Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al Douisan was given to this award, as the deceased, may God have mercy o him, held principles and ethics which established strong foundations which promoted the public interest before the private interest, cooperation, collaboration and solidarity for advancing the nation, as well as focus on science for building the Kuwaiti citizen, represented in his children and grandchildren first, his family, group and community without discrimination or limitation. This is in addition to respecting work, exerting effort, inspirations, investment of experiences and employing them to serve the nation under the umbrella of faith and preserving the established principles of the nation.
